“The Hangover” franchise is closing in on one last round.
After months of headaches over stars Bradley Cooper, Zack Galifanakis and Ed Helms’ $15 million-plus contract demands, Warner Brothers is nearing a deal to bring back the Wolfpack for a third installment in the hit R-rated franchise, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
That’s a substantial pay hike from 2009’s “The Hangover,” when the three then-virtual unknowns were paid under $1 million apiece. After director Todd Phillips’ Las Vegas-set comedy earned $467 million worldwide at the box office, however, Cooper, Galifanakis and Helms got paid a reported $5 million for last year’s sequel.
Despite tepid reviews from critics who felt “The Hangover Part II” simply copied the formula that made the first film a success with a move from Las Vegas to Bangkok being the only real change, the movie earned $581 million worldwide.
If the deals can be finalized in time, the movie would start shooting this summer for a 2013 release.
“I would do a ‘The Hangover Part III’ in a heartbeat because I love working with these guys,” Phillips told the News last year.
Phillips added naysayers who fear a potential third movie will bring just another trip to the same well have nothing to worry about.
“I have a great idea for it,” he says. “It doesn’t follow the template of the first two. It’s a totally different film and is very much the end of the Hangovers.”
Shooting could start this summer set for 2013 release.
